A ticket is a small paper or a commercial document given to a customer indicating that he or she has paid for an admission to an event or establishment such as theatre, movie theatre, amusement park, zoo, museum, concert, and other attraction. It is also a proof that one has paid the fare for permission to travel on a vehicle such as bus, train, airliner and boat. The first known tickets were used in the Greek period for theater events.

Ticket can be sold and bought at a ticket window or counter called box offices. It is valid for any seat or specific seat whereas tickets are being numbered and tallied to the total number of seats. It can be purchased individually or in group and can likewise be bought in advance which is commonly called reservation or booking.

It is generally made of paper or card. Others used plastic for more durability. Some may have bar codes or magnetic stripe keeping the simple data inside to avoid counterfeiting. In the present times you can buy tickets online over the Internet with a nominal service charge. This will guarantee that you will not be disappointed due to the tickets being sold out.
